About the game

Fly a paper plane over twelve real cities, find every landmark, and land on a star to play a game.

Kid's Map is one trip around the world in twelve stops. Spin the globe, warp to a city, and fly it yourself — Southern California, Houston, Dallas Fort Worth, Atlanta, Chicago, New York, London, Paris, Beijing, Seoul Incheon, Tokyo and Hong Kong, each built as real 3D from its own street plan, with 3,684 landmarks between them. Tap any landmark and the inspector freezes the flight, swings the camera round it and tells you what it is.

Stars are hidden across every city. Fly into one and a mini-game opens on top of the flight — thirty of them, from Blackjack to Gemfall to Top Corner — and closing it drops you back exactly where you were, still flying. Find the portal when a city is done and the globe draws the next leg.

The music is written per city, so each place sounds like itself, and the whole thing is generated as it plays. Built for in-flight entertainment: touch and keyboard, and a trip that keeps its place as you move between the globe and the cities. The whole game plays with nothing to connect to — every city, every landmark and all thirty mini-games are on board.

Fly Together. Start a room, tell a friend the six-letter code, and you are in the same sky: their aircraft is really there, banking and climbing as they fly it, with their name above it and a coloured marker so you can find each other across a city. The room follows you both from the globe into a city and on to the next one, and while you are apart it tells you which city your friend is in — so you can go and meet them. Tap a friend to say hi: a wave, a smile, a cheer or a thumbs up floats over your aircraft for everyone to see, they are told who it came from, and one tap says it back. No typing anywhere in it.

On a seatback there is a second way in: a seat number. Type the seat across the aisle and the child in it is asked to fly with you — one tap and you are both in the same sky. A seat is the only thing one passenger knows about another, and nobody reads a room code off an armrest. Needs a connection; without one the game is exactly as it was.

Ten languages. The globe, the cities, the HUD, the mission cards and the ride chooser are all translated, and the game picks a language from the device on first run; a button in the top corner changes it and the choice follows you between the globe and the cities.

How to play

  1. Stars float above the city. Touch one and a mini-game opens.
  2. The glowing ring flies you straight to another city, picked at random. To go back to your trip instead, use Leave City.
  3. Fly the same city at the same time. Start a room and tell a friend the code.
