About the game

Olympic recurve archery, made into an arcade. Read the wind, time the sway, lead moving targets: 40 levels across five venues, an endless Gauntlet, and set matches against four archers.

Archery is an original Airporio sports game: Olympic-style recurve archery from the shooting line, built to World Archery's scoring and set rules and turned into an arcade.

Press and hold to draw, drag to move the sight pin, let go to loose. The pin sways, steadiest just after full draw; hold too long and your arm tires. The wind is shown on every flag and on the gauge, and a 4 m/s crosswind moves an arrow six rings at 70 metres, so reading it is the game. The sight is set for one distance, so nearer targets fly high and further ones drop.

Career: 40 levels across five venues - a practice field, a country fair with hay-bale targets, windy sea cliffs, a sunset stadium and a floodlit night final - with sliding and swinging targets, balloons (gold for big points, blue for extra arrows, black to avoid), clay discs, pop-up gold plates, rapid fire and gold streaks. Gold hits build a combo multiplier. Three stars on every level is hard.

Gauntlet: endless waves of three arrows against a rising quota, with the distance, the wind, the motion and the shot clock all growing without limit. Olympic Match: the real set system, first to six set points, with a one-arrow shoot-off at 5-5, against a club archer, a national archer, an Olympian or a legend.

Three camera views: behind the archer, through the sight, or the TV broadcast with a target camera. Ten languages, keyboard and gamepad as well as touch. One self-contained file with no network requests of any kind, so it plays at altitude with no connectivity.

How to play

  1. Press and hold anywhere to draw the bow. Drag to move the sight pin. Let go to loose the arrow.
  2. The pin sways. It is steadiest just after full draw; hold too long and your arm tires.
  3. Read the wind on the flags and the gauge, and aim off into it. Further targets drift more.
  4. Your sight is set for one distance: nearer targets fly high, further ones drop low.
  5. Gold hits build a combo multiplier. A miss resets it. Let go early and the shot is let down, not lost.
  6. Change the view with the camera button, the C key, or a gamepad's View button or D-pad up: behind the archer, through the sight, or TV broadcast.
