About the game
Real 3D curling with a Tour: 35 levels across five rinks, an endless Gauntlet, and four curlers a rink who slide, sweep and hold the broom.
Airporio Curling is 3D curling you play with one finger. Drag to move the skip's broom, pull down for the weight, let go and your thrower slides out of the hack. While the stone runs, hold the screen to sweep: it carries farther and curls less. Pick the turn and the stone bends the way you asked.
The Tour takes you through five rinks - a club, a barn, a frozen loch, an arena and a floodlit sheet under the northern lights - in 35 levels: challenges (draw to the button, guards, take-outs, come-arounds, freezes, raises, doubles, the last stone) and games against named rinks, each venue ending with its champion. Earn up to three stars a level. Then the Gauntlet: game after game against stronger and stronger rinks, three lives, no ceiling.
Underneath is the real sport: ends, scoring by the stone nearest the button, last stone, the five-stone free guard zone and extra ends, on ice measured in metres and seconds. Friction rises as a stone slows, the curl comes from its rotation, sweeping straightens it, and stones pass on spin when they hit. Each rink has its own ice; the loch even drifts. Opponents from a beginners' rink to a champion call and miss their shots the way rinks at that level do.
Quick games at five lengths, practice for any shot, five camera views including one from behind your thrower, three levels of help, its own jig with a Music button of its own, and 11 languages. One self-contained file with no network requests, so it plays offline at 38,000 feet.
How to play
- The game. Two rinks slide granite stones down the ice at the house (the rings). When all the stones of an end are thrown, the rink with the stone nearest the button scores one point for every stone it has closer than the other rink's best. The rink that scores throws first in the next end, so the other has last stone (◆): a blank end keeps it where it was.
- Call the shot. Drag left and right to move your skip's broom: the stone is thrown at it. Pull down for weight, from a guard to a take-out, and let go to throw. The turn button chooses which way the stone curls. A turning stone curls away from the line you gave it, more as it slows.
- Sweep. While your stone runs, hold anywhere to sweep. Sweeping carries the stone further and keeps it straighter. Sweepers tire: save them for when they matter.
- Free guard zone. Until five stones have been thrown in an end, a stone sitting between the hog line and the house may not be knocked out of play by the other rink.
- Help. Beginner sweeps for you; Standard shows where the stone would stop; Expert shows only the weight meter and the stopwatch (Settings).
- Camera: the camera button (or C) cycles the view from behind the player, the stone camera, the skip's view, the side boards and overhead. The note button turns the music off and on; M silences everything.
- Keys: arrows aim and set the weight, Space throws and sweeps, X is the turn, P pauses. Controller: left stick, A, X, Y for the camera, Start to pause.
