About the game
Build a silly sentence, draw it, and watch it change as it travels round the table.
Crayon Chain is the pen-and-paper party game of telephone pictionary, rebuilt for one screen. Pick three picture cards to make a sentence — who, what they are doing and where — then pass it on. The next player draws it. The player after that sees only the drawing and has to name three cards from it. Round and round until every story has passed through every player, and then the whole chain is opened link by link so everyone can see how a cat playing drums on the moon turned into a robot eating cake in a cave.
Play solo against a crew of drawing characters, or pass one device around a group of up to eight. Every word is a picture as well as a word, so nobody has to type and the game works the same in eleven languages. There is no timer unless you want one, nothing to lose, and nothing to buy.
How to play
- Pick who, what they are doing, and where. Three cards make one silly sentence.
- Someone else's sentence lands on your desk. Draw it — no words allowed.
- Next you get a picture with no words. Pick the three cards you think it shows.
- At the end every story is opened link by link, from the first sentence to the last.
- You score for every card that made it from the first link of a story to the last, and for every card a crewmate read correctly straight after your turn. Pass & Play has no score — it is just for laughs.
- Your crewmates squint at what you drew. A full, bold, colourful picture is much easier for them to read than a tiny squiggle.
